Getting To Your Website From Your Mobile Site

By Howard Avner - 12:08pm

Even with your spectacular mobile site, your viewers may need to see your website. So, you’ve put a link onto your mobile site that leads to your website. The problem is was that if you also put the Kishkee Auto-Detector code onto your website, you’ve been sending your mobile viewers right back to your mobile site; until today…

As of today, Kishkee provides two options:

  1. You can tell Kishkee to allow a visitor to bypass the detector from your mobile site once (per visit) - this allows a visitor that wants to view a page from your website a chance to access your homepage once without being redirected.
  2. You can tell Kishkee to allow a visitor to bypass the detector for a couple of minutes once clicking the link to your desktop website - this allows a visitor to navigate around your desktop website and continue to view your homepage (and additional pages) multiple times per visit without being redirected.

To setup option 1, simply add ?disable_mredirect=1 to the URL of the link on your mobile site.
OR
To setup option 2, simply add ?disable_mredirect=temp to the URL of the link on your mobile site. (See example below.)

Special thanks to Jo Ellen whose feedback made this happen!

Stuck on IE? Try IE 9

By Howard Avner - 1:39pm

If you’ve been using Internet Explorer, you may have noticed that golden warning bar at the top of Kishkee alerting you that “You’re using an unsupported browser.” But, if you update to Internet Explorer 9 (which you can do right here at the Microsoft website) then your Kishkee experience will be greatly improved.

Note: you do not need to upgrade to IE 9 if you are using Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera or Rockmelt or any other browser that doesn’t start with ‘I’ and end with ‘nternet Explorer’.

But what should I put on my mobile site?

By Howard Avner - 9:48am

Kishkee users come in all shapes and sizes and no two are the same. A large contingent of Kishkee users are smart business owners that know that they need to engage their customers on mobile devices but, because they aren’t usually web designers, they’re looking for direction. Their first question is usually: what should I put on my mobile site? So, I figured I’d give you my two cents.

1. Nobody wants to read an essay on their phone! Unless you are a magazine and people expect to be reading when they visit your site, try to minimize text. Some of my favorites sites have just a catchphrase, logo and two buttons. When it comes to mobile, less is more.

2. It’s a mobile site, remember to cater to users on the go! Provide viewers with information they need - as quickly as possible. If you’re a restaurant, don’t make a potential customer search you site for your location; make sure that a geo-location button is on the front page.

3. Customizing your buttons. We often see people using the default Kishkee buttons. The default Kishkee buttons are nice and they might be ideal for your site but, if they aren’t, make sure you check out the Styling page to change them around. Kishkee gives you the power to create your ideal button so go for it.

4. Use a background color. A background color can give your site a warm feel. Try to steer clear of blinding your viewers with bright pink, yellow, green and the rest of the neon spectrum. Kishkee sets the background color of your site to white but you can change it by visiting the Styling page.

5. Keep your site current. Kishkee is all about empowering you to update your site. You aren’t locked into anything with Kishkee; you can always change whatever you need by logging into your account. Build you site - make changes later.

Site Analytics Launches Today!

By Howard Avner - 7:46pm

I’m in a great mood. Forget the sunshine in which I’m currently basking and the beautiful city of San Francisco that I’m enjoying - today I’ve got something more exciting. You’ve probably seen the title so you already know — the Kishkee platform now has mobile site analytics! (Whoopee!)

To check out the traffic on your site, log in to Kishkee and click the “analytics” button (either on the main sites page, or you can click into a site and click “analytics” on the site toolbar). Currently you can see your unique visitors and your total page views for a date range that you specify.

We’re not done yet and we hope to release some other metrics soon so be sure to stay tuned!

Spring Cleaning

By Howard Avner - 10:09am

Kishkee is very powerful, innovative, software. We work hard so that Kishkee can be simple for you to use. Still, the more programming we do for Kishkee means that the chance for bugs in the system increases. We have systems set up to catch the bugs, but they can sneak by us.

So, we’ve been doing a bit of spring cleaning of our own. We’ve been fixing bugs and polishing the Kishkee backend (uhh…we mean servers) to improve your experience.

If you think you’ve come across a bug please let us know. Just send an email over to support@kishkee.com.

Lurking in the Shadows…in a non-creepy way of course.

By Howard Avner - 10:47am

Hiding your site from the search engines might be a confusing notion in these days of SEO (search engine optimization) but consider those embarrassing pictures of you falling off that boat in Maine, or all the information on your business card - you probably don’t need everybody on the internet to have that information.

So, if you’d prefer not to have your site be visible to the search engines, head over to the Settings tab of your mobile site and select “Do Not Allow” in the Search Engine Visibility field.

A couple of nice surprises

By Howard Avner - 11:32am

We build Kishkee to satisfy your needs. So, when you call/email us, we listen. Your feedback provides us with a road-map that we use to continue development. When you ask for components and functionality, we get to work. Today we’re releasing functionality based on your feedback.

Jake S., wanted PDFs of his invoices. We wanted Jake to have access to his invoices whenever he needed them. So we built a way to download PDF versions of your invoices. Head over to the billing history section of the account tab, select your invoice and click the Download PDF button at the top left of the page!

Troubled Identity wanted to use a custom domain for their band’s mobile site. So we built a better interface to allow you to link domains to your Kishkee site! You can access this new interface in our Settings page. In fact, we’ve totally redesigned the Settings page to make it easier to change the settings of your mobile site. It’s simple and easy to navigate so make sure to check it out.

Seth W., Mark S., William A., Joe M.,  wanted to be able to put a hyperlink behind their images and logos. Good idea fellas, consider it done. You can now add an Action to your images.

But for Robert S., just linking an image wasn’t enough. He called to let us know that he didn’t always have the images that he wanted. For example, Robert wanted to create a click-to-call button but he didn’t have a good image of a phone. So, we integrated the Kishkee Uploader with Iconfinder.com (one of our favorite sites!). Iconfinder has over 150,000 icons which you can drop right into your site using the Image component.

It’s your support and feedback that continuously helps Kishkee evolve. If you have an idea drop us a line

It’s nice to be appreciated.

By Howard Avner - 3:15pm

At Kishkee we work very hard to make sure that every person, business, organization and foundation that uses the Kishkee platform has the tools they need to properly control their mobile presence. And, when we help someone setup a mobile presence that they love, it makes us want to give you more.

We’ve received some great feedback and thanks from you guys and we wanted to let you know that we appreciate it and that we appreciate you.

So, stay tuned, because we’re been gearing up for some huge releases and we’re excited to share them with you.

You Love Us, You Really Love Us!

By Howard Avner - 11:11am

It’s the most common question we get and, until now, we didn’t have a great solution.

“How can I upgrade my account?”

Well, kind people of Kishkeeville (it was either that of Kishgonia), you can now easily upgrade your account. Just head to the top of your screen, select “account,” scroll down and you choose your new plan!

This feature was suggested by Stewart T. If you have a great idea for a feature, component or something else you’d like to see us do, give us a call or shoot us an email. If we implement it, we might send you a free Kishkee sweatshirt, t-shirt or some other cool swag!

Your Jedi Senses may be tingling…

By Howard Avner - 11:55am

You may be getting that funny feeling that something is different. Not an alarming feeling, but you sense that something has changed. And, although you may not be sure what it is, you know it’s changed in a good way.

Don’t be weary, that feeling you’re getting has nothing to do with the double-stuffed, seven cheese, triple bean, chili burrito you had for dinner last night, it’s the updates we’ve been making here at Kishkee. You probably won’t notice most of the changes because they’re within the programming of the site, but every now and then you’ll think to yourself, “wow, that was even easier than before!”
